Care & Maintenance

Here at Masinelli Floor Covering we have a wide
variety of cleaners. We have hardwood, linoleum,
laminate, ceramic, stone and  carpet cleaners. Also, you can rent out the Host Dry Carpet Cleaner so you never have to deal with wet carpet ever again!

The Host dry carpet cleaner is the leading dry extraction carpet cleaning

method. Host is recommended by carpet manufactures worldwide. You should clean your carpets with the Host Rental Machine every 12-18 months depending on your household traffic.

What is Host? Advanced Formula Host Sponges Carpet Cleaner is a soft, natural

product that is environmentally friendly. Host cleaner consists of tiny "sponges" moistened with water detergent, and a small amount of safe-to-use solvent. The Host Sponges Cleaner dissovles, absorbs and traps soil, spots and odors as it cleans, and is removed by vacuuming. Matted carpets are revived and once again become soft to the touch. Your carpet is clean dry, and ready to use and enjoy right away!

 General Care
Carpet

For high traffic areas be sure to vacuum thoroughly 2-5 times per week. For light traffic areas you will only need to vacuum at least once a week. Developing frequent vacuuming habits will help you to maintain the beautiful look of your carpet and you won't need a professional cleaning quite as often. Overall cleaning of the carpet should be considered every 12-18 months depending on the lifestyle of the household, frequency of vacuuming, and whether the carpet is light or dark.

HardwoodYou should vacuum or sweep your  hardwod floors regularly to keep dust and grit from scratching your floor. Food and beverage should be cleaned up immediatly with a damp(fully squeezed) cloth or sponge. Use area rugs if floors are used by sinks or dishwashers. NEVER use water on wood floors to clean them. Hardwood Flooring's biggest enemy is water. Water causes wood to swell. This swelling can cause warping, twisting, cupping, edge crush, etc. to occur. Sometimes the flooring will recover and sometimes it won't. The trick is to avoid introducing water to your hardwood floor. Mopping with soaps, wax removers, oil soaps ect. can easily harm wood flooring. Some cleaners can leave a residue which will discolor your floor and make refinishing extremely difficult. Do not over wax floors. Always try to buff floors to revive the shine. If this is unsuccessful, then and only add additional wax. Consider adding wax to the traffic areas only, not the entire floor. Never apply a surface finish over prefinished factory materials. Prefinished products are often waxed at the factory.

Do not wax floors that have a clear or colored finish (urethane / varnish) on them. The presence of wax may make recoating extremely difficult. Clear finishes can not be applied over wax. Only apply wax to floors that you know have had wax applied from the beginning.

Ceramic

Ceramic tile is one the easiest types of floors to clean and when properly cared for will maintain their shiny, new appearance for years to come. To clean your tile you don’t need anything fancy - just water and a floor cleaning product. Vacuum the floor first then use a sponge or mop to apply the cleaner and water mixture. Rinse off with water and let dry. Other than that your ceramic tile does not need much care. You will have to be careful about dropping heavy objects on it particularly in the kitchen where heavy pots can slip and fall. If your tile does become cracked or chipped it will be very difficult to replace it without having to dig up the rest of the floor so tread carefully on your new ceramic tile floor.

LaminateLaminate floors are designed to only need minimum care. You should sweep your floors regularly to remove dirt and debris that could eventually wear down the finish of your floor. Some laminate manufacturers may recommend that you use a cleaning solution periodically to remove sticky substances or mud and other moist debris. These cleaners used periodically can help restore the finsh of your laminate floor. The manufacturer of your flooring may have their own brand of floor cleaner and refinshing spray. Also, you could use a simple solution of water and vinegar to clean you floors. NEVER use any flooring products designed for hardwood floors. Laminate floors are designed withe a wax-free finish to keep your floor looking new.
PorcelainPorcelain tile is stan-resistant so it requires minimal maintenance. You should clean up spills immediately with a damp cloth or sponge. Regular cleaning with water or a mild detergent is recommended.
VinylDaily sweeping or vacuuming will help to keep the  original shine and color of your floor for years. A quick clean up of spills will prevent discoloration and a weekly or bi-weekly cleaning with a commercial floor cleaner keeps the floor looking as good as new. Be sure to sweep first then mop. Also, be sure to rinse the floor with clean water after using a detergent: residue from the solution can form a sticky film on the vinyl that clouds the finish and attracts dirt.

Fiberfloors

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove dirt and grit that can abrade or scratch your new floor. Wipe up spills quickly and thoroghly with a damp cloth or mop. Wash your floor using a suitable mild detergent. The use of non-staining mats and rugs may be helpful in removing harmful grit at entryways and can help prolong the life of your floor.
